2020 Toyota Corolla Earns Green Car of the Year® Award
The redesigned 2020 Toyota Corolla and the first-ever 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid have earned the title of 2020 Green Car of the Year® by Green Car Journal. This is the second time the Toyota brand has taken home the Green Car of the Year award, its first win being in 2007 for the Toyota Camry Hybrid. Below we are going to dive into what helped the 2020 Toyota Corolla lineup earn the Green Car of the Year® award, so keep reading to learn more.
2020 Corolla Efficiency and Specs
Beneath the hood of the traditionally powered 2020 Corolla is the same 1.8-liter engine that is found in the previous Corolla generation models. Despite its same power source, the 2020 Corolla delivers increased horsepower and better fuel efficiency than previous models. Higher Corolla trim grades are fitted with a new 2.0-liter Dynamic-Force direct-injection engine that delivers improved performance on less fuel.
With the Toyota New Global Architecture platform, creating a hybrid powertrain and battery for the Corolla was an easy fit. 2020 Corolla Hybrid models are powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with two motor/generators. This hybrid system doesn’t take away any space from the cabin and delivers a combined output of 121 horsepower. The 2020 Corolla Hybrid delivers an incredible fuel economy out on the road, earning an EPA-estimated 53 city MPG, and is the most affordable hybrid in the brand’s lineup.
The Toyota Corolla continues to impress automotive experts and enthusiasts alike and with another award under its belt, the Corolla keeps getting better.
