If upcoming travel plans with the kids have you stressed, this blog is for you. While it can be hard to keep even the most well-behaved children quiet and comfortable during long car trips, we have a variety of tricks that should help to keep them engaged and happy so you can make family memories that don’t include the phrase, “Are We There Yet?”
How To Keep Kids Engaged On Long Car Trips
The best thing you can do to keep your kids engaged during a long car trip is to bring plenty of activities. Our favorites are sticker books, road trip bingo, fun car games, and music or podcasts whatever your child enjoys that keeps them occupied and isn’t too messy. However, instead of giving them a container filled with multiple activities, we have found that keeping control of the fun stuff and handing it out randomly throughout the trip makes it feel more like a treat.
Bring Plenty of Snacks

Allow Some Screen Time
While limiting screen time can be beneficial for family bonding, young children have small attention spans and letting them have some screen time with a tablet or watch a movie via the rear-seat entertainment system can help break things up.
Include Them In The Plans
The majority of trip planning should be left for the adults. However, breaking down the trip into smaller and more understandable segments can help kids be more engaged with the world around them. A map and clothespin or great tools for helping kids follow along and some phone and tablet apps can virtually show kids where they have been and where they are going.
