Today, we’re gearing up for the spring season here at Serra Toyota in Birmingham, AL. One of our favorite springtime activities is biking and we’re compiling our list of the top 3 cycling trails and routes in Jefferson County, so you can get out and enjoy the local scenery!
This mile-long trail scales the ridge of the 1,025-foot Red Mountain. The tree-lined trail is a great way to get a view of the greenery surrounding you and the city views that are accessible from the route. This route is flat, and the paved surface is great for bikers. Those who choose this trail can view historic views of Birmingham’s oldest districts and a view of the famous Vulcan Park.
This trail near downtown Birmingham stretches a half mile along 1st Avenue South from 25th Street to 32nd Street. It follows the route of a former railroad corridor and is a paved, tree-lined rail-trail. It is just a block from the Rotary Trail. These two trails link Railroad Park to the Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark. They are also a part of the Red Rock Ridge and Valley Trail System.
Railroad Park is an eight-block recreational public space in downtown Birmingham. This park celebrates the city’s railroad history and borders active railroad lines that make for great trainspotting. The rail-trail travels the length of the park and gives bikers access to views of a lake, streams, wetlands, and grassy fields. This historic trail is a great way to enjoy the history and nature that Birmingham has to offer.
