The Canyon offers front seat passengers a few more inches of legroom than those in the Tacoma. However, the Tacoma gives rear seat passengers 32.6 inches of space, whereas the Canyon has just 28.6 inches of legroom. Both midsize trucks have a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.
When it comes to safety, there are a few features that are standard on both models. Anti-theft protection, automatic headlights, electronic traction control, hill start assist control and a low tire pressure indicator are all standard on the Tacoma and the Canyon. However, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma SR starts to come out on top with a few additional safety features not available on the GMC Canyon Base. These include front knee airbags, a brake assist system and active head restraints. The Tacoma SR is also set with a standard CD and MP3 player, outside temperature gauge, power mirrors, rear split folding bench seat and Bluetooth, which are features not available on the base of the GMC Canyon.
