In the current automotive market, crossover models reign supreme and two models easily head the pack: the 2019 Toyota RAV4 and the 2019 Honda CR-V. Though the Toyota RAV4 has taken the lead with more sales, the 2019 Honda CR-V doesn’t trail too far behind and both models deserve a place on any crossover shopper’s radar.
Today, we put these two segment leaders head to head to see which offers crossover shoppers the most bang for their buck. Find fuel economy and performance specs below along with a comparison of each model’s pricing and active safety to see which comes out on top with the best overall value.

The 2019 Toyota RAV4 and 2019 Honda CR-V are very similar models. And, while there are slight differences that favor one or the other, the most glaring comparison is found when comparing active safety on base trims. While both lineups have their respective active safety packages, the 2019 Toyota RAV4 offers the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 bundle as a standard feature on all models and the 2019 Honda CR-V reserves its Honda Sensing active safety packages for the EX trim and above.
That means that drivers interested in any of the active safety available on the 2019 Honda CR-V lineup will need to fork over a little more cash up front ($27,250 starting MSRP) for the EX trim for features they already get on the more affordable 2019 RAV4 LE trim with a starting MSRP of $25,500.
Pricing aside, both active safety packages are fairly comparable with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 taking a slight lead thanks to recent updates. The Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 bundle on the 2019 RAV4 offers Road Sign Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Pre-Collision with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and Automatic High Beams. Honda Sensing includes Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, and Lane Keeping Assist.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 lineup is on sale now at Serra Toyota in Birmingham, AL.
